You can turn a selection off and reactivate it later. In addition, options are available for controlling the display of the selection marquee, which is the visible border of the selection.

You can also turn off a selection by clicking outside it with the Oval Selection tool
, the Rectangular Selection tool
, or the Lasso tool
.

This command is available only if you have previously turned off a selection.

The drawing mode remains in effect even when the marquee is hidden. For more information, see Choosing the protected area of a selection.
