Adding mosaic effects to an image

You can add mosaic effects to an image that already contains brushstrokes, layers, or objects. However, because mosaics are applied directly to the canvas, you need to incorporate mosaic effects carefully or you could lose some of the existing content.

When you create a mosaic, the entire canvas is automatically covered with the grout color. This obliterates images that are currently on the canvas, but leaves objects that hover above the canvas, such as layers and shapes. These objects are not deleted, but they do cover up the mosaic that you’re working on.
