Creating an alias

Paradox® lets you create aliases, which are names you can assign as shortcuts to directories. By default, your working directory has the alias :WORK: and your private directory has the alias :PRIV:. When you create an alias, you cannot use extended characters, such as characters that contain accents. In addition, all lowercase letters are converted to uppercase.

In the procedure below, you will create an alias.

To create a public alias

  1. Click Tools menuAlias manager.
  2. Enable the Public alias check box.
  3. Click the New button.
  4. Type the name for the new alias in the Database alias box.
  5. Choose a driver from the Driver type list box.

  6. The Driver type list box displays all the drivers to which you are connected. Choose Standard to create a database of Paradox (and dBASE®) tables.
  7. Click the Browse button.
  8. Choose the drive and folder where the sample files are stored.
  9. Click the OK button.
  10. Click one of the following:

  11. OK — prompts you to overwrite the existing configuration settings
Keep new — keeps the alias, but does not close the dialog box
  12. Click the Yes button.

  13. By clicking Yes, the alias you just created will exist in future sessions, but if you choose No, the alias will only be available for the current session.
