Defining the table of contents

Having marked the section entries, you will now define how the table of contents will display in the sample file by specifying the number of levels and the position of the page numbers.

To define the table of contents

1. Type the table of contents title Table of contents: Working with graphics at the beginning of your sample file.
2. Press ENTER.
3. On the Table of contents level toolbar, click Define.
4. In the Number of levels (1-5) box, type 3.
   Mark 1 to Mark 5 each correspond to a level of indentation.
5. In the Numbering format area, Level 1 through 3, choose Text.....# from the Position list box.
6. Click OK.
   The message <<Table of contents will generate here>> displays.
7. Press CTRL + ENTER to insert a blank page.
   This creates a page on which to insert the table of contents at the beginning of the sample file.
8. Select the table of contents title.
9. On the property bar, press the Bold button.
