Viewing selections


You can turn a selection off and reactivate it later.

There are options available for controlling the display of the selection marquee, which is the visible border of the selection, and the selection overlay, which helps you distinguish selected areas from protected areas.

To turn off a selection

Choose Select None.

You can also turn off a selection by clicking outside it with the Oval Selection tool , the Rectangular Selection tool , or the Lasso tool .

To reactivate a selection

Back to Top
Choose Select Reselect.

This command is available only if you have previously turned off a selection.

To hide or show the selection marquee

Back to Top
On the property bar, click the Marquee button:
— lets you hide the selection marquee
— lets you show the selection marquee.

The drawing mode remains in effect even when the marquee is hidden. For more information, see Choosing the protected area of a selection.

To hide or show the selection overlay

On the property bar, click the Overlay button:
— lets you hide the selection overlay
— lets you show the selection overlay.

To set selection view options

On the property bar, click the Selection View Options flyout button , and perform a task from the following table.

Do the following
Set the pixel transparency level contained by the marquee
Move the Marquee Threshold slider.
Higher values will include lower opacity pixels.
Set the overlay color
Click the color picker, and choose a color.
Set the overlay opacity
Move the Opacity slider.
Choose an overlay preset
Choose a preset from the Preset list box.
Create a custom overlay preset
Click the Add Preset button .
Note: To delete an overlay preset, click the Delete Preset button .
Overlay a selected area
Choose Selected area from the Overlay list box.
Overlay a protected area
Choose Masked area from the Overlay list box.
View the overlay after you complete a selection
Disable the Hide Overlay check box.
