To create a bar code, you must choose an industry-standard format and specify the digits that the Barcode wizard encodes. You can create various types of bar codes, including 13-digit ISBN bar codes. You can edit a bar code at a later time.
When you generate a bar code, you can change many of the industry-standard properties to improve the ease with which it can be read by a scanner. The bar code must be readable the first time it is passed under a scanner.
The look of a bar code is affected by five settings: printer resolution, bar width reduction, magnification, bar height, and the wide-to-narrow ratio.
Printing distortions that affect the bar code measurements may occur. You can set the bar width reduction — the number of pixels subtracted from the original bar width — to prevent any distortions. Magnification increases the size of the entire image, while bar height changes only the height of the bars. Wide-to-narrow ratio refers to the distance between wide bars and spaces and the narrow bars. A high ratio makes the bar code wider and easier to scan.
You can change the font, weight, alignment, and size text options.
You can change the appearance of a bar code by changing the bar code options. For example, you can place add-on text at the bottom or at the top of a bar code, center check digits, and show start and stop characters.

In CorelDRAW, click Edit  Insert Barcode.

Choose a bar code format from the Industry standard formats list box.

Type the characters you want to encode in the text box.

Click Next.

Apply changes to industry standard properties, if necessary.

Click Next.

If necessary, adjust any of the following text settings:

Font, Size, and Weight — lets you determine the appearance of the type
|
• |
Alignment — lets you choose the alignment of text that appears under the bar
code
|

Center sys/check — lets you vertically center the system and check digits on
the bar code symbol. The system digit appears before the bar code symbol, and
the check digit appears after the bar code symbol.

Show add-on text — lets you print the text associated with the add-on bar
code. Add-on bar codes do not apply to all bar code formats.

• |
Show Quiet Zone marks — lets you print the quiet zone marks. The quiet zone
is the clear area (free from marks) before and after the bars and spaces.

Place text above — lets you print the human-readable text above the bar code
symbol

• |
Show FACT data — lets you print Federation of Automated Coding
Technologies (FACT) data

• |
Show asterisks — lets you print asterisks before and after the bar code text.
Asterisks do not apply to all bar code formats.

Show start/stop — lets you print the start and stop characters. The start
character indicates the beginning of the symbol. The stop character indicates the
end of the symbol.

Make this bar code human readable — lets you print text with the bar code
symbol

Click Finish.

The completed bar code is added to the drawing as an object.

Wide bar codes are read more accurately than narrow bar codes.

| To create a 13-digit ISBN bar code | |

In CorelDRAW, click Edit Insert Barcode.

In the Barcode wizard, choose ISBN from the Industry standard formats list
box.

3. |
Type the bar code numbers in the Enter 9 numeric digits box, and click Next.
|
4. |
Click Advanced, and in the Advanced options dialog box, enable one of the
following options:

978 attached — adds the 978 prefix to the bar code
|
• |
979 attached — adds the 979 prefix to the bar code
|
These options generate an EAN-13 code from the ISBN number. |

Click OK, and then click Next.

To view the code that is appended and make it printable, enable the Make this bar
code human readable check box.

Specify other options, and click Finish.
|

To edit the bar code directly, cut the bar code, and paste it back into
CorelDRAW as a Windows metafile (WMF).

In CorelDRAW, select a bar code, and double-click it.

Make the changes you want in the Barcode wizard.
