Create the missing piece of the sphere

To complete the illusion that a piece has been broken from the sphere, you will copy the completed sphere group and change the Boolean operations used to create the piece broken off the sphere. To accomplish this, you will change the Boolean attribute of the stone from Negative to Intersect. With the Intersect Boolean attribute, only the volume shared by both the sphere group and the stone will be rendered; the rest of the sphere group will not be rendered.

  1. From the Advanced Display palette, click the Display Mode tool to return to Wireframe Display mode.
  2. Select the sphere and stone group.
  3. Press Command/Ctrl + D to create a duplicate of the group. The duplicate appears directly on top of the original.
  4. Drag the duplicate to the right so that it is clear of the original.
  5. With the duplicate group still selected, click the U button next to the group's bounding box to ungroup the objects.
  6. Click on the background to deselect the duplicate group, and then select the duplicate stone.
  7. Click the A button next to the stone's bounding box.
  8. From the General tab in the Object Attributes dialog box, enable the Intersect Boolean attribute.
  9. Click the OK icon.
  10. With the stone still selected, hold down Shift and select the duplicate sphere group.
  11. Click the G button next to the objects' bounding box to group the objects again.
  12. Click the Render button to render the scene.
  13. Once Bryce has finished rendering the scene, the Render Report dialog appears. Click the OK icon.
