Drawing the clothes

You will now draw clothes for the clown, including a collar, shirt, and buttons.

To draw the collar

The collar is a jagged fringe across the bottom of the head. You will use the Bezier tool to draw the collar by clicking to set each point of the fringe. Click here to see what the collar will look like.

  1. Click the Bezier tool.
  2. Click near the bottom-left side of the head to place the first node of the collar.
  3. Click where you want to place the next node.
  4. Repeat step 3 across the bottom of the head until you are finished drawing the collar.
  5. Click the first node to finish the collar. Click here to see an animation of these steps.
  6. Click Arrange menu Order To back.
  7. Using the Shape tool, adjust the nodes of the collar so it fits around the bottom of the head.
  8. Right-click the rim of the hat, and drag to the collar.
  9. From the submenu, choose Copy all properties.

To draw the shirt

  1. Using the Ellipse tool, draw an oval.
  2. Right-click the hat, and drag to the body.
  3. From the submenu, choose Copy all properties.
  4. Click Arrange menu Order To back.
  5. Using the Pick tool, position the body underneath the collar. Use the sizing handles to resize the body as needed.

To draw the buttons

  1. Click the Ellipse tool, hold down CTRL, and draw a circle the size of a button.
  2. On the color palette, click the deep pink color Deep pink swatch to fill the circle, and right-click the no color swatch to set the outline.
  3. Copy and paste the ellipse. Change the fill color to light yellow Light yellow.
  4. Using the sizing handles, make the yellow circle smaller, and place it on top of the original button.
  5. Marquee select the two circles. Click here to see an animation of this step.
  6. On the property bar, click the Group button. You can now move the two circles as one object.
  7. Place the button on the body, underneath the collar.
  8. Copy and paste two additional buttons. Line them up beneath the original.
